Recognition of same-sex unions in Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein has recognized same-sex registered partnerships since 1 September 2011 following approval by voters in a referendum. Liechtenstein was the second country in the world to pass a partnership law by referendum, after Switzerland in 2005.

In November 2022, the Landtag passed a motion calling on the government to introduce a bill legalizing same-sex marriage, with broad support from across the political spectrum. On 11 August 2022, Prince Alois said that same-sex marriage is "not a major problem", and opinion polls show that a majority of the Liechtenstein public supports same-sex marriage. A public consultation on the proposed legislative changes was open until 10 October 2023.
