President of Hungary
The president of Hungary, officially the president of the republic (Hungarian: Magyarország köztársasági elnöke, államelnök, or államfő), is the head of state of Hungary. The office has a largely ceremonial (figurehead) role, but may also veto legislation or send legislation to the Constitutional Court for review. Most other executive powers, such as selecting government ministers and leading legislative initiatives, are vested in the office of the prime minister instead.

The current president of Hungary is Katalin Novák, who took office on 10 May 2022. She is the first woman to hold the presidency.
Novák resigned on 10 February 2024. By law, Hungarian Parliament has to accept her resignation before it can come into effect. The institution of "provisional president" does not exist in the Hungarian law system. There is an interregnum until the inauguration of the next president. Until then, the Speaker of the National Assembly (in this case László Kövér) will assume powers and duties as acting president, when Novák's resignation takes effect.
