It has the Bayer designation A Ursae Majoris; 2 Ursae Majoris is the Flamsteed designation. It is visible to the naked eye as a faint white star with an apparent visual magnitude of 5.5. Currently 150 light years away, it is moving closer to the Earth with a heliocentric radial velocity of −17 km/s.
