Democrats gained three seats, giving them a majority of 56 out of 110 seats and winning control of the chamber for the first time since 2008. Simultaneously with Democrats gains in the state senate, winning control of that chamber the first time since 1984, and Governor Gretchen Whitmer winning re-election, Democrats won a trifecta in the state for the first time in 40 years.
