Factor V Leiden

Background

  • Also known as Factor V Leiden Deficiency or FVL
  • Point mutation in FV making it resistant to cleavage by activated protein C
  • Increased risk of thrombosis
  • Most individuals with FVL will never have a venous thromboembolism (VTE)

Clinical Features

  • Family history of thrombophilia
  • VTE at a young age
  • VTE in an atypical location
