Work: With no experience or training I got asked by my boss to be the database administrator. I cannot fathom why he asked this of me, a humble CNC machinist, but here I am hitting the world of Microsoft Access like a flying flaming sack of $#!*. Where will I land? Somewhere near you perhaps? Please put out my flames but don't stamp me out too hard or you may find a surprise.
I am learning SQL, VBA, and Microsoft Access as fast as I can gulp it down. The database I was given to work with I can see is the most de-normalized mess you can imagine. Thank goodness for the kind soul who taught me what 1st 2nd and 3rd normal form are so I could clearly see how much dedication has been put into not following them in this database. The sheer persistence demonstrated by the creators in innovating new ways to disregard standards and normal forms is just breathtaking.
Yay me.
Well actually, database development is deliciously technical and I love it. I just wish I didn't have to depend on the work of such creative programmatic innovators (yeah, that's a good way to put it)
