Oxygen breather with powers both subtle and grand.

When possible, I work as a programmer and systems administrator. I code most frequently in C, but have also written numerous large shell scripts (snapshot/backup system, wrapper for Xplanet, and others). Despite its reputation, I rather like Java and have begun using it more, where applicable, and am in the process of learning Python.

My degree is in computer science with a heavy focus on astronomy. As such, much of the work I have done in the past has involved writing software for use in image processing of astronomical data. For example, see the "OpC" page on my website to find a useful utility for processing FITS image data using a C-like syntax.

On the shell scripting side, I have a suite of scripts than make semi-complex usage of Xplanet easier. The scripts are not difficult to configure and add many useful options and features to Xplanet. There is also a snapshot/backup script system (inspired by rlbackup) that maintains a running snapshot of the system; very useful if you have many users or need the ability to recover accidentally deleted files. I also have a page of numerous miscellaneous scripts that can serve in many system administration tasks.

I also enjoy video games on several platforms, including PC (preferably Linux, if possible), Nintendo 3DS, and PS3. Classic adventure games are very good, as are platformers and strategy games. All time favorite game: Star Control ][
