I became a software engineer the day I saw my first Sinatra program light up on a web browser and have had a blast using React/Redux, Ruby on Rails, and writing in Javascript ever since. This career choice was no accident. I love problem-solving, learning, collaborating with others, and the challenge of meeting deadlines - which all pointed to a life of programming. But I’m deeply motivated by helping people, and love how I can help build technology that improves the lives of others.

I wanted to develop my programming skills further, so have been enrolled in the Flatiron’s School’s software engineering bootcamp for most of 2020. I wanted to maximize my time sheltered-in-place during the pandemic, and found a great opportunity to hone my knowledge of Ruby and Javascript. It also gave me a change to deep dive into Rails and React, and particularly start working with hooks and Context in React (I like that Context requires less code than Redux).

I’m currently working on a couple independent projects, one of which is the digitization of 100-year-old Crum's Coptic Dictionary. I’m also looking forward to expanding my knowledge this year by learning Angular and Swift in the near future, as well as start writing tests and benchmarking my programs for performance.

When I’m not programming, I love playing ice hockey with my boys, learning to cook something new, reading 3000-year-old poetry, or studying up on how to build an effective team.
