Brief Introduction
RSA SecurID Access provides the benefits and functionality of RSA Authentication Manager, the SSO Agent, and Identity Assurance combined into one product.
- RSA Authentication Manager is an on-premise multi-factor authentication solution that verifies authentication requests and centrally administers authentication policies for enterprise networks. Use Authentication Manager to manage security tokens, users, multiple applications, agents, and resources across physical sites, and to help secure access to network and web-accessible applications, such as SSL-VPNs and web portals.
- The SSO Agent is an access and authentication platform with a hybrid on-premise and cloud-based service architecture. The SSO Agent helps secure access to SaaS and on-premise web applications for users, with authentication methods for multifactor identity assurance. The SSO Agent helps increase user productivity with single sign-on (SSO) and enables a company to control how users access these applications with centralized access and authentication policies.
Connecting RSA Authentication Manager and the SSO Agent
You can connect RSA Authentication Manager and the SSO Agent in the following ways:
Users can use RSA SecurID as a step-up authentication method for SaaS and on-premise web applications. This requires Authentication Manager version 8.0 or later.
Users can authenticate with either RSA SecurID tokens or RSA SecurID Access Authenticator Tokencodes from all access points controlled by Authentication Manager including agents, RSA Ready Partner implementations, and RADIUS clients. Authentication Manager sends RSA SecurID Access Authenticator Tokencodes directly to the SSO Agent for authentication. This requires Authentication Manager 8.2 or later.
RSA SecurID and RSA SecurID Access Authenticator Tokencode both employ a one-time, randomly generated number called a tokencode. The RSA SecurID Access Authenticator Tokencode is generated on a device where the RSA SecurID Access Authenticator is installed. This tokencode, which is verified by the RSA SecurID Access hosted service, is time-based and must be used before it expires. Because users are enrolled for this method automatically after device registration, you do not need to perform any additional steps to deploy or distribute the RSA SecurID Access Authenticator Tokencode.
