I receive an error when installing NPM as follows:

gzip: stdin: decompression OK, trailing garbage ignored
/usr/local/bin/tar: Child returned status 2
/usr/local/bi/tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
It failed

My set up:

  • Mac OS X 10.6.3
  • GNU tar v1.26
  • Node v0.4.12

Any help greatly appreciated.

"Installing without make"

Install make on your system

you can get make by installing the developer tools that came with your mac, or through a package manager.

I like Homebrew: Link
