I am trying to get the mapbox addin for power BI to do a cholorpleth map (ultimately in 3D but I can't even get the shapes to appear). I followed the steps in this post but it is not working for me. The map appears but it does not show the colored suburbs shapes.

I downloaded and prepped the data from Part 1. I tried having the names of the suburbs in uppercase and I have tried regular just in case but that wasn't the issue. It is supposed to match what is in the shape file and from what I can tell the shape file uses normal case (capital first letter only).

The data source link for the tileset data in Part 3 doesn't exist so I grabbed the closest one I could find "VIC Suburb/Locality Boundaries - Geoscape Administrative Boundaries". I was able to figure out (I think) the map ID and layer name. It has different properties than the one used in the article but I have tried them all and no luck.

Is there another step by step out there that I can try or does someone have some helpful guidance?

  • I found another step by step video and it helped (even though it wasn't in a language I understand). I wanted to show the suburbs so I had to use that field from the data for my Location, which I was already doing, but also for the Color. Then I used the equivalent of the suburb in the shape file property as the Vector Property Level 1 and it worked. Then I was able to use a number (median price) for the size and it made the shapes 3D. – Peter Lammers Aug 16 '23 at 21:34
