Our developer removed and then replaced the public_html/images folder on our Joomla website using a migration script.

**The problem is:

a) all image files names have been scrambled

b) the folder filing structure has disappeared

c) maximum image files is limited to 9,998**

When viewed through the Joomla CMS editor the image file names have remained legible and the integrity of the folder structure is intact.

NOTES:

i) Investigations/research prior to this post suggested the possibility of a transfer protocol with outdated/ incompatible character set being used. I'm advised this is not possible as he used a migration script which resided on our own server (in Australia).

ii) We wondered whether the scrambling was related to the cache image file naming protocol used by "k2" for Joomla. That's not the primary issue (although it may related somehow). This scrambling problem has only occurred after migration. K2 had been running for a decade prior to the image migration – without image naming issue – and a week after the image migration.

iii) Now, manual ftp image uploads appear in English but disappear (become scrambled) when the ftp client is closed and re-opened.

iv) I'm using Fetch and have not had an issue either viewing or uploading to this site in a decade. I have changed no settings.

v) There have been no server upgrades in this period.

vi) The project he was working on was successful and the site is fully functional.

Or maybe thats what their filenames were all the time, but when you view through Joomal the entries in the database are read, giving you the nice human readable filenames which relate to the on disk filenames – RiggsFolly Jun 19 '23 at 13:56
