I am trying to configure keepalived in a master/master environment (along with Load Balancing). I have configured keepalived and nginx for load-balncing and it works perfectly. The problem is that the VRRP side is in a Master/Backup configuration. I know with keepalived.conf I can set the state to be MASTER on both and also ensure the priority is the same and I thought this would work. However, what is happening now is that the first server to come up is in a MASTER state and the second is in a backup.

So, from a load balance perspective it would balance across the two nodes, but how do I get this to balance from a VRRP perspective and never to utilise just the one node as this kind of defeats the objective?

Would a MASTER/MASTER result in a split brain?

And it looks like the configs I have tried are what is recommended. There must be another way of getting around this. Any ideas anyone please?
