I have a remote VPS with a Rails website and a git repo. After a lot of years I tried to make changes to it and when I tried to push them via git, I got "Permission denied (publickey)". For some reason 'git' user stopped working and I don't know why. I can still login to that VPS via SSH using a regular user though. I also tried every step I could find for solving ""Permission denied (publickey)" problem and GIT would just not allow me to clone or push or do anything with that remote repo.

The problem is that this repo has the most recent code and I need it badly. Is there a way to copy all the git repo to my local PC via ssh without using git user? And probably I'd like to recreate it then anew on that remote VPS.
Could someone kindly point me to the right direction?
