There is an environment variable in the config file -

# External IP-Address of the TURN server external-ip=IP_ADDRESS

I am assuming that this is where you map your host server's IP address - but is it safe to use my actual home IP address here?

Should I use an IP address from DreamHost or some similar service if possible?

  • There's always some risk involved in hosting servers, whether it's local or remote. For a small project for yourself, I don't see the issue. But if you plan on making applications to reach large scale audiences then your own home network has to be able to withstand the bandwidth. – Irelia Mar 12 '23 at 02:29
