Long story short, I am trying to set pfsense up on a ESXI server that only has one NIC. My current problem is I lost connection to my server after I set up the vlan ID's on ESXI. I'm sure I made a stupid mistake since I'm fairly new to both networking and ESXI.
My topology is as follows: Modem - Router - TPlink-SG2008 - Server. My host is wirelessly connected to the router. Router is on port 1/0/1 and server is on port 1/0/2 on the switch.
So my switch has 2 vlans setup, a WAN vlan10 untagged, and a labbing vlan 20 tagged. ESXI I have 3 port groups on a vswitch labeled pfsense Wan (vlan10), pfsense lan (vlan20), and management network (vlan20) Once I set the management network to vlan20 I lost all communication with the server.
Can't ping it or anything, Nmap doesn't see it. However I can see that the Intel ISM from my server is available, so my server is definitely there. I was under the impression I would be able to connect to it due to it being on the same vlan id as the switch port its on? I tried googling for the answer but have not been able to find a fix to my problem. I would rather not have to reimage my server if not needed. This would probably happen again since I'm probably missing something fundamental here. Thank you!
