What file format most closely resembles or influenced Visual Studio solution files (.sln) for syntax highlighting in VS Code?

I'm leaning on .ini file format but if someone has insight on what influenced solution files and the history behind them it I'd appreciate it.

This is so I can apply some syntax highlighting in VS Code when I open a .sln file.
