In my case, want to include the static library for releasing binary to other machine, but it doesn't make it. The library is from boost_regex(1.80), and I tried to compile following steps.

  1. Change directory to {boost-path}/libs/regex/src/, and make object files.

    g++ -c *.cpp -I{boost-path}/boost/

  2. Make static library.

    ar -r libboost_regex.a *.o

  3. Move libboost_regex.a file to custom lib directory, and compile the final binary.

    g++ -o out mycode.cpp -std=c++17 -L{libpath} -lboost_regex

Finally, g++ exposing error like below.

/tmp/cc8LJ6pp.o: In function `boost::basic_regex<char, boost::regex_traits<char, boost::cpp_regex_traits<char> > >::assign(char const*, char const*, unsigned int)':

Please tell me, what I miss for compiling binary to standalone?

    Boost has a build system, you should use it. Or use some package manager to get a prebuilt one. – HolyBlackCat Oct 07 '22 at 09:47

    You don't need to ship static libraries. They are built into your executable when you link with them. As opposed to dynamic libraries (that you do need to ship, so they can be loaded at run time). – Jesper Juhl Oct 07 '22 at 09:51
  • That means, so the .so lib is required to release program, coded with boost. Right? – Conkel Conkel Oct 09 '22 at 01:59
