Why is spring ListenableFuture.cancel throwing CancellationException

Question

I am doing some task execution using the spring ThreadPoolTaskExecutor class using the submitListenable(Callable<T> task) method. When I call cancel(true) on the listenablefuture returned by the submit method I get a cancellation exception and I cant understand why. Below is a sample code snippet Can someone explain to my why?

I think you're getting an error on `fut.get(1, TimeUnit.SECONDS);`, not `lis.cancel(true);`, can you confirm that? — İsmail Y., Oct 02 '22 at 14:51

I'm testing your code and I don't get an error on that line, can you comment/remove the last line (`fut.get(1, TimeUnit.SECONDS);`) and test it? — İsmail Y., Oct 02 '22 at 15:17
I dont understand why but when I comment the line you mentioned the error goes away but the exception stack trace clearly shows the exception being thrown when the cancel is called when the get method call is present. Do you also get the exception when the line is uncommented? — joey, Oct 02 '22 at 15:21

lis.cancel(true); throws CancellationException and puts it in CompletableFuture(fut). When fut.get(1, TimeUnit.SECONDS); requests for a canceled transaction, it will (re-)thrown this error.

CompletableFuture content in fut.get(1, TimeUnit.SECONDS); line:

E.g: You can try a method where you will not call a get request if it is canceled:

if (!lis.isCancelled()) {
    fut.get(1, TimeUnit.SECONDS);
}

This is an example, you will need different approaches according to your need, you can do research.
