Failed to start the Kernel. OSError: [WinError 123]

Question

Since a few days I can't run my code (not even a simple print("Hello wolrd")) file in my python interactive window anymore. When I try to start the kernel I get the following message:

Failed to start the Kernel. OSError: [WinError 123] Die Syntax für den Dateinamen, Verzeichnisnamen oder die Datenträgerbezeichnung ist falsch: '"c:'. View Jupyter log for further details.

I am using python 3.6.13 and running from a virtual env which I am managing with anaconda. I have ipykernel installed. When I do the same with my other python version 3.9.7 it works just fine.

I already browsed a bunch of threads on this here but couldn't find a solution.

I am working on a Windows 11 Pro, 64-bit system.

Unfortunately not since it just shows me ```OSError: [WinError 123] The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect: '"c:'\r\n` ``` which i can't find in my pythonpath — luidwig, Jul 25 '22 at 09:35

Having same error, very frustrated to not be able to use arcpy in VSCode Jupyter Notebook. Solution above did the trick! Make sure arcgispro-py3-clone environment is selected:

pip uninstall ipykernel 
python -m pip install ipykernel

Recently, jupyter is repairing .env related problems.

You can try to install vscode insiders and install pre-release version of jupyter extension.

it happened to me, I try to uninstall ipykernel via pip uninstall ipykernel, open vscode, then install ipykernel via a popup in vscode when running notebook file, and it worked again
