How to initialise wifi module to Arduino. ESP8266

Question

I'm working on a Arduino project found online but I'm having trouble with the configuration of the wifi module. Im using a Az Delivery ESP8266 wifi module and the code I have written is the following

I get no error on running and the code compiles but when I open the serial monitor I see that the wifi module fails the first cycle and prints module ERROR.

What am I missing?

Monitor as a SoftwareSerial instance? What exactly the ERROR? As far as I can see you never read anything from the `monitor`. — hcheung, Oct 23 '20 at 15:58
@hcheung there is no compile error. But the serial monitor of Arduino says "ESP8266 module ERROR" which is the message of my if cycle if the things go wrong — MKK, Oct 23 '20 at 22:21
