  • There is a good answer to this on Ask Different: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/358975/fully-disable-macbook-pros-touch-bar – Michael Kropat Dec 14 '21 at 15:45

Disabling Macbook Pro's TouchBar isn't natively supported.

As JBallin can tell, the closest answer is to do the following :

  • Go onto System Preferences > Keyboard
  • Click on Customise Control Strip...
  • Remove every item from your control strip

Then set :

  • Touch Bar shows | Expanded strip
  • Press Fn key to | Do nothing
  • Press and hold Fn key to | Show F1, F2, etc. Keys

Now your Touch Bar should light up only after pressing the fn key.

If you still want to completely disable it, have a look at Bar None made by Shaun Inman.

My touchbar flickers continuously for several minutes each time it's awaken, brighting the room like a strobo. Not being able to turn it off is so lame: now I get flashed in the face randomly, and it drains the battery (100->88% in 5 minutes). – All because of a random senseless manufacturing defect that Apple doesn't want to admit as fault (they want 400-500 bucks to replace half of the laptop ); that is the same lie they claimed for years about their terribly broken keyboard (how honest..). I wouldn't feel cornered & abused as a customer, if I only would had a switch to turn that off. – Kamafeather Jan 13 '22 at 14:29
