I have a springboot application in which one module interacts with mysql database. It works fine if mysql server is up. But I would like to bring the application up and perform other activities even if the mysql server not available. Right now, if the mysql is down, the application throws the following error and stops.

org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'entityManagerFactory' defined in class path resource [org/springframework/boot/autoconfigure/orm/jpa/HibernateJpaConfiguration.class]: Invocation of init method failed; nested exception is org.hibernate.service.spi.ServiceException: Unable to create requested service [org.hibernate.engine.jdbc.env.spi.JdbcEnvironment]

These are the database-specific dependencies available in the pom.xml file.

<dependency>
   <groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
   <artifactId>spring-boot-starter-data-jpa</artifactId>
</dependency>
<dependency>
    <groupId>mysql</groupId>
    <artifactId>mysql-connector-java</artifactId>
</dependency>

I tried adding <optional>true</optional> tag in the dependency, but it didn't work.

application.properties file content is this

spring.datasource.url=jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/dbdev?createDatabaseIfNotExist=true
spring.datasource.username=root
spring.datasource.password=welcome@123
spring.jpa.hibernate.ddl-auto = update
spring.datasource.initialization-mode=always
