NullPointerException when trying to get BottomSheetBehaviour, using Databinding

Question

I am getting NullPointerException when I try to get BottomSheetBehaviour, below is my code

MainActivity.kt

class MainActivity : AppCompatActivity() {


    lateinit var activityMainBinding: ActivityMainBinding
    override fun onCreate(savedInstanceState: Bundle?) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState)
        activityMainBinding = DataBindingUtil.setContentView(this, R.layout.activity_main)

        val bottomSheet = activityMainBinding.bottomSheet.bottom_sheet_lienar_layout

        val bottomSheetBehavior =  BottomSheetBehavior.from(bottomSheet)<---NULL POINTER EXCEPTION

my activity_main.xml is

            layout="@layout/bottom_sheet" />
    </RelativeLayout>
</layout>

My bottom_sheet.xml is

    android:orientation="vertical"
    app:behavior_hideable="true"
    app:behavior_peekHeight="56dp"
    app:layout_behavior="com.google.android.material.bottomsheet.BottomSheetBehavior">

    <TextView
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:gravity="center"
        android:text="This is persistent Bottom Sheet"
        android:textSize="20sp" />

</LinearLayout>

Can anyone help me, where I am doing mistake?

The `android:id` you've specified on the `` overrides that attribute on the root `View` of the included layout, so your `LinearLayout` is ending up with ID `bottomSheet`, not `bottom_sheet_lienar_layout`. With help of @Mike & @Varun my code works by following changes in activity_main.xml file

            layout="@layout/bottom_sheet" />
    </androidx.coordinatorlayout.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
</layout>

and bottom_sheet.xml file

<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
