I just created a simple JFrame
form using the Netbeans GUI Builder (I'm new to Java) which performs the division of two integers as shown below:
Here I attempt to divide 2 by zero
Obviously, I get an Arithmetic Exception.
Here is the code for the form:
public class division extends javax.swing.JFrame {
public division() {
initComponents();
}
@SuppressWarnings("unchecked")
// <editor-fold defaultstate="collapsed" desc="Generated Code">
private void initComponents() {
t1 = new javax.swing.JTextField();
jLabel1 = new javax.swing.JLabel();
t2 = new javax.swing.JTextField();
l2 = new javax.swing.JLabel();
jButton1 = new javax.swing.JButton();
setDefaultCloseOperation(javax.swing.WindowConstants.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
getContentPane().setLayout(null);
getContentPane().add(t1);
t1.setBounds(49, 60, 51, 20);
jLabel1.setText("/");
getContentPane().add(jLabel1);
jLabel1.setBounds(110, 63, 4, 14);
getContentPane().add(t2);
t2.setBounds(118, 60, 50, 20);
l2.setText("=");
getContentPane().add(l2);
l2.setBounds(172, 63, 8, 14);
jButton1.setText("Divide");
jButton1.addActionListener(new java.awt.event.ActionListener() {
public void actionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
jButton1ActionPerformed(evt);
}
});
getContentPane().add(jButton1);
jButton1.setBounds(78, 109, 61, 23);
pack();
}// </editor-fold>
private void jButton1ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
// TODO add your handling code here:
int a=Integer.parseInt(t1.getText());
int b=Integer.parseInt(t2.getText());
int c=a/b;
l2.setText("="+c);
}

//</editor-fold>
/* Create and display the form */
java.awt.EventQueue.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
public void run() {
new division().setVisible(true);
}
});
}
// Variables declaration - do not modify
private javax.swing.JButton jButton1;
private javax.swing.JLabel jLabel1;

I have a simple doubt. My program continues to run even after the Exception
is thrown.
On the other hand,I think that if you don't catch the exception, it will terminate your program.
Why does it continue to run? Where am I wrong?
