The latest pro model.
I always choose to buy the latest pro model. Also, I recommend buying the largest hard drive you can afford, that might mean the 250gb.
The reason I say the latest model is because it's an investment for your career. Even if you don't realize it, your computer will generally generate your personal profit and (in personal opinion) since it's an Apple product it will last quite a long time.

1*The* latest model, or the latest model OP can afford? The newest pros are really expensive, and the failure rates of the butterfly keyboards are worth considering (I own one, ask me how I know) – C.Nivs Oct 20 '19 at 19:53

@RideSun Maybe not from apple directly, but my answer is more based on the question title. – Michael Ozeryansky Oct 21 '19 at 19:21
I know Apple users don't want to read this but you get way more for your money when u buy a PC. I have a LENOVO YOGA 720 with 24 G RAM for the last 3 years. I run three screens and have 3 mobiles attached. I still don't feel any reason to upgrade. Memory is super important when you want to program. More important than pure CPU performance. If you don't like Windows install Linx. Flutter works with all platforms. Usually, you save half the money and you can actually afford a new PC and not some Mac which has been around the block for a while.

1Regardless of whether or not the question is on topic, this doesn’t answer the question. OP is “planning on buying a Mac,” which IMO isn’t quite the place to fire up the Apple vs. anything else debate, regardless of (valid) counter-points – C.Nivs Oct 20 '19 at 02:11

Well investing 1200 in a MacBook does not really cut it when u want have decent power for programming. You have to spend close to 2500. Just proposing something which would fullfil the price requirement. – Ride Sun Oct 20 '19 at 07:16

It might not cut it in your opinion, but maybe OP sees something worthwhile for them. Again, sure, you can get a windows/Linux machine for less, but the question is *which MacBook is recommended for $1,000-$1,200*. Also, maybe they don’t need 28-32GB RAM, and the programming they might be doing could be lightweight and they want to work with something they are used to – C.Nivs Oct 20 '19 at 19:50
