I'm using dagger 2.24, without dagger-android. My component setup is as follows:

What happens is dagger generates all subcomponent creation methods like this:

@Override
public SignInComponent getSignInComponent() {
    return new SignInComponentImpl();
}

BUT doesn't generate any implementation of fun getNewMeetingComponent(): NewMeetingComponent at all. This is really weird, because there are no conceptual differences among other subcomponents.

The build fails with a simple message

 DaggerAppComponent is not abstract and does not override abstract method getNewMeetingComponent() in AppComponent

What could be the problem here?

The answer is very simple. I put my NewMeetingComponent into a package named "new". I forgot that in terms of java it's not a valid package name. Either Android Studio hadn't shown a warning or I had discarded it for some reason.

  • I just wanted you to know that this EXACT same thing happened to me. Made a package called "new" and was struggling with the same issue of the dagger code not autogenerating. As far as I can see you have not added your subcomponent to the main component. To add a subcomponent you need to specify it in subcomponents parameter of a module inside the main component. There is an example in the documentation

where SererModule is one of the modules included in the main component.

  • But according to dagger doc > In addition to @Module.subcomponents, a subcomponent can be installed in a parent by declaring an abstract factory method in the parent component that returns the subcomponent. And this is what I'm doing. Moreover, this way dagger should generate the subcomponent regardless if it is used or not: > Installing a subcomponent via a method on the parent component is an explicit request for that component, even if that method is never called.
