I'm doing a project using javafx where scene changing is applied. There are two fxml files, first scene contains a button which is supposed to move the scene to the next scene. But I got an error in the controller class of first fxml file at the line looks like: FXMLLoader.load(getClass().getResource("Scene2.fxml"));Here Scene2.fxml is the second scene that I want to show where a button(whose on action is named with Move) is clicked.

I used Intellij IDEA

Whole Move() method is:

void Move(ActionEvent event) throws IOException {
    Parent parent = FXMLLoader.load(getClass().getResource("Scene2.fxml"));
    Scene scene2 = new Scene(parent);
    Stage window = (Stage) ((Node)event.getSource()).getScene().getWindow();

    window.setScene(scene2);
    window.show();

}

Errors:

"C:\Program Files\Java\jdk-9.0.4\bin\java.exe" "-javaagent:C:\Program Files\JetBrains\IntelliJ IDEA 2019.1.2\lib\idea_rt.jar=58992:C:\Program Files\JetBrains\IntelliJ IDEA 2019.1.2\bin" -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 -classpath C:\Users\admat\IdeaProjects\Dekhun&dekhan\out\production\Dekhun&dekhan sample.Main

Update: I did the same project in Netbeans latter, it works.

  • getClass() returns your class and invoke getResource("Scene2.fxml") should find the resources if in deployed beside the class file (same directory if exploded on the file system or same JAR file if the application is packaged as a JAR File). – Alan Bateman Jun 05 '19 at 19:39
  • The resource path may or may not be the issue here. There certainly could be other things preventing the fxml from loading properly. The stacktrace provides invaluable info. Without it we can only make guesses. This makes this question off topic since for now it's lacking the necessary info to identify the issue. – fabian Jun 05 '19 at 22:57
  • When you “got an error” and want help on that, would you mind posting the error? – Holger Jun 06 '19 at 07:24
  • **I have added the error messages** – Mateen Jun 06 '19 at 09:15
  • `Parent root = FXMLLoader.load(getClass().getResource("/scene.fxml"));` should work. It begins with a `/`. – Mohan Radhakrishnan Dec 03 '19 at 06:43
