xaml vector image in WPF: 'TextBox' TargetType does not match type of element 'ContentControl'

Question

As the title says, I'm trying to use a .xaml vector image in WPF but instead of the image, I get prompted this message.

the code I'm using was provided by Chris W.

You'll have to show me how you're using it, or at least a minimal example to reproduce it. Since there would have to be something implicit for `TextBox` to even be included in the error you're receiving I can only assume there's something more going on here, but we can get you sorted one way or another. Ok, so there's several things I'd change in there but for the moment let's try to remedy your error (Which wouldn't be connected) and get your logo displaying.

So now we have a clean resource, let's use it, I did change the Fill color to be able to see it on a white background though. So for the instance level;

You should be able to see what you expect now. Keep in mind that SVG and WPF XAML Path Markup Syntax are very similar, but are not entirely the same. Personally I usually use Mike Swanson's ai to xaml plugin for Adobe Illustrator. It's super useful and he's an awesome guy.

Anyhow, now we've got your logo, so how about that weird error? I see this in there but I don't see where/how it is used <Style x:Key="VortechLogo" BasedOn="{x:Null}" TargetType="{x:Type TextBox}"> which would be the only TargetType of TextBox I see so let's start there, if you omit that style, do you get the same error?

In that scenario I'm not sure what that TextBox style is doing. I don't see it's ControlTemplate which would have a Content Host part and `BasedOn="{x:Null}" is redundant and can be removed since it's explicitly named with an x:Key name.

So I would probably need to see more to troubleshoot your TextBox error, but at least your ContentControl logo should be sorted. Let me know what else you bump into while debugging and we'll see if we can't get it fixed too. Hope this helps, cheers. :)

first off I would like to give you a huge thanks for your effort in helping me out. as you probably can tell, I'm very new to xaml and didn't quite grasp it fully yet. it works now. I have absolutely no clue why the text box style was in there but it definitely explains it, since VortechLogo was the original name that I used. No worries, we've all been there. If it's not showing at runtime and the usage is like you show in your example then it may not be getting the space it needs from it's parent container Grid. XAML has its quirks but I still prefer it over html personally even though I have to work with both heavily often. If you still run into issues we'll get you sorted. — Chris W., Mar 13 '17 at 00:45
playing around with spacing fixed it, it really does seem to have not gotten the space it needed. yeah xaml definitely has its quirks haha :D but I agree, I'll take it over html any day.
