Sonar services are not starting when I configured to MS SQL database.(Microsoft SQL 2008 express)

Services are getting started when I configured to MySQL database

I have uncommented the below line in the sonar.properties

sonar.jdbc.url=jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://localhost/sonar;SelectMethod=Cursor

Can you please let me know the steps to configure Sonar qube 4.5.1 with SQL Server 2008 Express

Did you configure SQL Server to use TCP/IP?

  1. From start menu: Open SQL Server Configuration Manager
  2. Expand the "SQL Server Network Configuration" node in the tree view on the left hand
  3. Select the "Protocols for InstanceName" node (where InstanceName is the name of the SQL Server instance - for example SQLEXPRESS - which contains the Sonar Qube data base you have created )
  4. In the protocols pane on the right, right-click TCP/IP and select Enable
  5. Remember to restart the SQL Server service after enabling the protocol

Did you enable SQL Server Browser service?

  1. From start menu: Open SQL Server Configuration Manager
  2. Select the SQL Server Services node in the left hand tree view
  3. Locate the "SQL Server Browser" service in the right hand pane and verify that it's state is Running
  4. If the service state is not Running, right click "SQL Server Browser" and click Start
  5. Optional: If you cannot start the service (if the option is greyed out and the service Start Mode is Disabled), right-click SQL Server Browser service and select Properties. In the properties dialog select the Service tab. Change Start Mode from Disabled to Automatic (or Manual if you rather prefer to start the service manually each time)

The message Can not connect to database. Please check connectivity and settings tends to tell that your connection settings are not correct:

  • incorrect DB URL
    • have you created a "sonar" schema?
    • is your DB on localhost?
  • or invalid user/password credentials. For instance, if you are using the default settings:
    • have you created the "sonar" user with "sonar" as a password?
    • have you granted them the correct permissions on the "sonar" schema?

Have you tried to connect directly to your SQL Server with you Sonar user? If so, do you have access to the Sonar DB? Remember that SQL Server as by default DBA access with the Windows account (or with a 'sa' user) but you cannot use this access for SonarQube, you have to create your own user.

Maybe this can help Sonar + MS SQL database.
