several packages available from epel, but not git?

Question

I've just installed the epels, and I've found that a lot of git-related projects are available, but git itself is not!

Why is git not in the EPEL repositories, and what is the simplest way to get it installed, idiomatically, on a RHEL or Fedora machine?

In RHEL, git is provided in the production-rhel-x86_64-workstation-major.minor (e.g., for RHEL 6.5, use production-rhel-x86_64-workstation-6.5).

In Fedora it's provided by the fedora and by the updates repos.
