I'm on Eclipse SDK 4.3, developing a product-based E4Application I am developing two plugins: "Main" and "External"
Main is the plugin with the application.e4xmi and product definition, it depends on External
External has a view part defined in it and also declared in plugin.xml as extension.

   <extension
     point="org.eclipse.ui.views">
  <view
        class="my.company.package.FileSystemNavigatorViewPart"
        id="my.company.package.FileSystemNavigatorViewPart"
        name="FileSystem Navigator"
        restorable="true">
  </view>

The view part is of course developed according to the e4 model (i.e. it has annotations and does not extend viewPart).

My purpose would be to declare the usage of the view part in the Application.e4xmi. I have specified the class URI in the Application editor, expecting the view part to be reused out of the box.
However, doing so leads to a Dependency Injection error:

org.eclipse.e4.core.di.InjectionException: Unable to process "FileSystemNavigatorViewPart#createControls()": no actual value was found for the argument "Composite".

The exception is generated when the Composite object should be injected in the createControls method of the view.
I have been using DI for a while now without any error, so my overall setup is ok.
I assume there might be some trick for re-using views from external plugins.
Online searches did not provide much help, as many questions are oriented towards re-using eclipse standard features through compat layer.

Can anyone please assists?
Thanks in advance

  • It may help to see more of the stack trace. What is the declaration in the plugin.xml? – greg-449 Oct 02 '13 at 11:31
  • Hi Greg, thanks for your kind help. I've added more details in the original request. – MoZZoZoZZo Oct 02 '13 at 12:19
  • `org.eclipse.ui.views` is not used for pure e4 apps but I don't think that is the problem. What does the code for `FileSystemNavigatorViewPart.createControls()` look like? – greg-449 Oct 02 '13 at 15:23
  • Hi Greg, I agree that the ui.views could not be used. I placed it there just to exclude that kind of error. The code is very simple. You just get a Composite as parameter of the createControls method, which is annotated as @PostConstruct. I've moved this class in the Main plugin and it works out straight away as usual. Any idea? – MoZZoZoZZo Oct 02 '13 at 17:41
  • I usually use a model fragment in each plugin for things contributed by the plugin. Although there are some unresolved bugs with persisted model state and fragments. – greg-449 Oct 02 '13 at 17:46
