I am building a Spring MVC project, and Eclipse is throwing this error (see screenshot). My pom.xml is:

Well, this solved mine as well. Anyone figure out why this happens? Always was presuming that Eclipse auto-updated as you modified pom.xml? – taylorcressy Apr 21 '14 at 16:51

this link has some more information (in Maven projects, pom takes the lead not eclipse ) http://stackoverflow.com/questions/20546962/what-does-maven-update-project-do-in-eclipse – JavaTec Feb 12 '16 at 20:51
  • Still didn't get why the error occurs, though got resolved by maven-update project with default settings – user3848789 Dec 22 '16 at 10:25
  • Solved mine too. But didn't get it whats wrong here. – Pankaj Apr 02 '19 at 21:25
  • Worked for me too. In my case it happened because of an "invalid POM" due to a "dependency.version missing". Does not make much sense... – Isidro.rn Aug 11 '20 at 13:29
