Error: EMFILE, too many connections

Question

On NPM install, I get:

I'm on osx. I've tried sudo ulimit -n 10480 which says:

$ ulimit
unlimited

Running npm version:

On OSX, you should be using launchctl.

To check current limit:

launchctl limit

To change the max number of files:

launchctl limit maxfiles 400000 unlimited

To change the setting permanently edit /etc/launchd.conf

limit maxfiles  400000           unlimited
