Background: Delhi, the National Capital Territory of India, is currently flooded. Excess water upstream of Yamuna river is being released.
Allegations: Multiple senior politicians from Aam Aadmi Party, the political party ruling NCT of Delhi, have alleged that Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), the political party heading Government of India, hates Delhi to the extent of flooding it deliberately. Like:
- National Spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Singh alleging that the Hathini Kunj barrage is diverting Yamuna water to Delhi alone.
- Sanjay Singh's statement has been echoed by the party's verified handle
- Earlier, Saurabh Bhardwaj, MLA in Delhi Assembly, alleged that the gates of ITO barrage are responsibility of Haryana govt (BJP ruled state) and these are not working properly due to poor maintenance.
- Mr. Bhardwaj's statement is now being echoed by Delhi's CM, Arvind Kejriwal himself.
These are all serious allegations, and public has a right to get to the bottom of these. Citing news media reports alone will be deemed political (not neutral), so it will not be sufficient.
Statement of Question
Can someone cite the available official sources from the government of India or the state governments (Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, etc) that throw light on what actually happened, and how these floods were handled?
