In the article "Dolphin hunt claim denied" (page 3 of mX Sydney, 25 March 2015), Australia for Dolphins chief executive Sarah Lucas refers to "the violent and unsustainable dolphin hunts in Taiji". The article doesn't specify what "unsustainable" means.

I'm not skeptical of the claim the hunt is violent (killing any animal for food is violent), but I am skeptical of the claim the hunt is non-sustainable.

I tried doing a search for dolphin hunting being unsustainable, and only got hits from organizations related to the abolition of dolphin hunting, rather than organizations concerned about the conservation of species or ecosystems.

Is dolphin hunting in Taiji unsustainable?

  • So do you want answers to exclude/ignore testimony from any "organizations related to the abolition of dolphin hunting"? – ChrisW Mar 25 '15 at 21:53

@ChrisW not so much exclude or ignore such sources, as treat them with skepticism. If they're part of an answer that uses other sources as well, then that's fine. – Andrew Grimm Mar 26 '15 at 11:16
  • @mods - do we have a good canonical Meta FAQ on the topic of "likely biased sources and how they should be treated in an answer"? – user5341 Mar 27 '15 at 17:56
