Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line is a layer 1 networking protocol, typically used for last mile Internet access. It utilises standard telephone cabling and coexists with analogue telephones. An ADSL modem at the customer premises communicates with the DSLAM at the local exchange. ATM is usually used as the layer 2 protocol, with PPPoE or PPPoA used for authentication.

What is the maximum speed of ADSL?

As wikipedia says the max speed of ADSL is 24.0 Mbit/s. However here it writes that Japan provides ADSL service with speed 50 Mbit/s.
