2004

Mar 04: First commit to the cryptsetup code repository

2005

Jan 22: LUKS1 On-Disk Format Specification released
Mar 25: cryptsetup version 1.0 released

2012

Apr 23: Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal) includes checkbox for FDE in GUI installer

2017

Dec 11: LUKS2 became available with cryptsetup v2.0.0

2018

Aug 02: LUKS2 On-Disk Format Specification released

2019

Feb 08: LUKS2 became the default with cryptsetup v2.1.0
