"Runner bean" (also known as "Scarlet runner bean", "Oregon Lima Bean", "ayocotl") is a bean, species Phaseolus coccineus (family Fabaceae). It typically has multicolored seeds and red flowers, although white flowers and seeds are known. It is native to the mountains of Central America.

Runner beans differ from common beans in that it is a perennial vine with tuberous roots. also, the cotyledons (embryonic first leaves) remain in the ground during germination.

Runner beans contain a poisonous lectin, and must be thoroughly cooked before consumption.
