Row cover (or cloche) is a material cover over row plants (usually vegetables) to protect them from the cold, the wind, and/or insect damage.

Popular row cover materials include clear plastic polythene, or spun-bound polyester. This material is then placed on hoops to form a tunnel over the crop.

How effective are row covers in preventing insects?

Has anyone ever used row covers (floating or built on a "structure", such as a PVC cage) to help prevent/discourage insects? How effective are they?
