The common holiday cacti are Thanksgiving Cactus, Christmas Cactus, and Easter Cactus. Closely related species from genera Schlumbergera, and also Rhipsalis.
The name holiday-cactus is used for a number of tropical epiphyte cacti. Most are closely related species of Schlumbergera, but the name is also used for Rhipsalis gaertneri ("Easter Cactus"). Most modern cultivated holiday cacti are hybrids between S. truncata and S. russelliana.
Plants have distinctive stems made of leaf-like segments. Propagation by cuttings is relatively simple by breaking off a segment and planting it in sandy soil.
Flowering is triggered by cooler temperatures and short days.
Use this tag for all of the holiday cacti.
