Questions tagged [greywater]

Waste water from domestic activities that can be recycled for irrigation.

Greywater is a term used to refer to waste water from activities such as laundry, dishwashing, and bathing (ie. excluding industrial and sewage water). Although this water is too "dirty" for consumption it can still be used for landscape irrigation or to aid constructed wetlands.

Greywater systems are typically of two kinds, depending on whether they include purification or not. The "dirt" in non-purified water will typically work as a fertilizer, although care should be taken to avoid contamination from things like non-aqueous solvents. Also non-purified systems can be prone to bacterial build up.
