Small round fruit that grows on the deciduous shrub of the same name. Genus Ribes.

The size of the gooseberry fruit is comparable to . The themselves grow to an average size of 3-5 feet (0.91-1.52 metres).

Harvest

The are best picked when they are hard with a rich sheen. For gooseberries with less tartness, go toward those that are pinkish or purplish in color. Green indicates they are not yet ripe, but are still suitable for pies and jams.

Storage

Gooseberries will store well in the refrigerator for about two weeks. In storage they may turn pinker and softer. When the turns purple, it will be suitable for purees for another week.
