The Man in the Wilderness asked me
How many strawberries grew in the sea?
I answered him, as I thought good,
As many as red-herrings grew in the wood.

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall;
All the King’s horses, and all the King’s men
Cannot put Humpty Dumpty together again.

A carrion-crow sat on an oak,
⁠Fol de riddle, lol de riddle, hi-ding do,
Watching a tailor mend his cloak;
⁠Sing heigh, sing ho, the carrion-crow,

Wife, bring me my old ben’ bow,
⁠Fol de riddle, lol de riddle, hi-ding do,
That I may shoot yon carrion-crow;

Wife, bring me my ol Fol de nddle, lol de
Wife, bring me my old ben’ riddle, hi-ding do!

The tailor shot, but he missed his mark,
⁠Fol de riddle, lol de riddle, hi-ding do,
And he shot the old sow right through the heart;
⁠Sing heigh, sing ho, the carrion-crow,
⁠Fol de riddle, lol de riddle, hi-ding do!

Little Miss Muffett
Sat on a tuffet,
⁠Eating of curds and whey;

There came a great spider
And sat down beside her,
⁠And frightened Miss Muffett away.
