VOWR is a Class B AM station. By day, it is powered at 10,000 watts. But 800 AM is a clear channel frequency reserved for Class A station XEROK in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. There are also several stations on 800 AM in Eastern Canada including CJAD Montreal, CKLW in Windsor and CJBQ in Belleville, Ontario. To avoid interference, at night VOWR reduces power to 2,500 watts. It uses a non-directional antenna. The transmitter is off Mount Scio Road in the Pippy Park section of St. John's.
