The album was recorded over a nine-month period of time, with Sean Booth noting in an interview that it had more of a "social vibe," stating: "We did a lot of the tracks for this album during the day, in the afternoon. We usually work late at night." A phony version of the album was leaked on file sharing networks simultaneously with the actual album's promotional leak. It became so widespread that Booth commented in an interview: "The more fakes the merrier, we’ve released fakes ourselves, but not this time."
