The magazine gained notoriety when its poll of the 1936 United States presidential election substantially missed the final result, predicting a victory for Republican candidate Alf Landon against Democratic incumbent Franklin D. Roosevelt. On election day, Roosevelt defeated Landon in a landslide victory. The poll's inaccuracy was ruinous for the magazine's reputation, and it ceased publication in 1938.
