The party is a social conservatist and economically liberal, it also has a strong association with the evangelical Universal Church of the Kingdom of God. As the PRB, it was the party of former Vice President of Brazil José Alencar, where it was part of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's government. It also supported Dilma Rousseff until her impeachment.
