The official seal of the university portrays the buildings of Jesuit College in Polotsk which gave rise to the university in 1581.

The university bears the name of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk, daughter of the Prince of Polotsk, the nun, abbess and educator, the first woman saint in the Belarusian lands.
