Established in 1948 as the Ottawa Transportation Commission, OC Transpo owns and operates O-Train, a rapid transit system with 18 stations, 170 bus routes and 43 bus rapid transit (BRT) stations on Ottawa's Transitway. The downtown core of the neighbouring city of Gatineau, Quebec is served by seven routes, most which operate only during peak periods on weekdays. Rush-hour service is provided to a park and ride lot in the Township of Russell. In 2022, the system had a ridership of 71,339,100.
